Greetings, Fellow Republicans,

This past week, voters in San Francisco removed three School Board members after a chaotic period including arguments over remote learning, the renaming of schools, a First Amendment lawsuit, and changes to the admissions process at the city’s most prestigious public high schools.

While not on the level of other states, parents in Delaware have experienced their own controversies with school boards. These are the bodies that determine how and what our children learn.  We need to have School Board members who embrace the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Good common sense would be a pretty good start too!

There are School Board seats available throughout SUSSEX County. Please see the Department of Elections’ website at:  https://elections.delaware.gov/information/elections/school/filinginfo.shtml

If you think you may want to consider one of these seats but are unsure of how to go about it, please see the following, but time is running out.  Candidates must file by March 4th.

The Delaware Federation of Republican Women (DFRW) has arranged with the Leadership Institute to offer two very good training sessions next month.  Both will be held at the DFRW Building located at 116 E Water St. in Dover. They begin on Friday evening, March 4, with “Running for School Board.”  On Saturday, March 5 an all day “Campaign Management Workshop” takes place.

I encourage those of you running for School Board to attend both sessions and if you are looking at other offices, the Campaign Management Workshop will provide invaluable information.  It is also recommended that you bring members of your Campaign Committee.

The itinerary for each session is below.  Even if you have worked on campaigns in the past, there is always something new to learn.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for stepping up to take on these very important positions.

This link (www.LeadershipInstitute.org/DESchools) will give information on both days.  When you register at this link, you register for both classes.

On the www.LeadershipInstitute.org/DESchools page, you will see coupon codes for people to use if they can only come on Friday (coupon code, FriOnly - $15) or only come on Saturday (SatOnly - $25).

If you have someone adamant about NOT running for school board, they can view the normal Campaign Management Workshop at www.LeadershipInstitute.org/DECampaigns.  Here they can register for Saturday only and not be bothered with school board stuff (Friday night).

We will be at the lower level meeting room at 116 E Water Street in Dover.

One of our Donor Development Reps has been working with someone in Delaware to bring a training.  If he donates, this training may become free.  Anyone who registered and paid will be refunded.

Greetings, Fellow Republicans,

As I write this, I am still very concerned about what is occurring in our schools.  The DE General Assembly is once again reaching into the curricula in our local schools.  SB 195 is out of committee and is going to a floor vote in March, after the Joint Finance Committee break.  Once again they are trying to “parent" our children by “helping” them determine appropriate websites from which they should obtain information.  They have wrapped this takeover in the euphemism of “Media literacy” and have dubbed it as “The Digital Citizenship Education Act.”  At first blush this may look innocuous.  However, I doubt that very much.  It is yet another way to indoctrinate our children to promote a liberal, progressive agenda.

They are leaving it to the Department of Education to write “evidenced-based literacy standards” for use by the districts and charter schools in K-12.  So we will have the Department of Education determine which news organizations are credible and which ones are not.

There are a couple of things we can and should do:

  1. Write to your Representative and Senator that you oppose SB 195 and thank them for standing strong against it.

  2. Make certain we elect and re-elect Republicans to the General Assembly

  3. Find candidates to run for the School Board in your School District

There will be School Board elections in the following Districts here in Sussex:

  • Cape Henlopen    1 Position  At Large

  • Delmar                 2 Positions At Large - to fill unexpired terms

  • Indian River.        Districts 1 & 2 - each to fill unexpired terms

  • Laurel                  1 position At Large

  • Milford*                District D and At Large

  • Seaford.              1 position At Large

  • Woodbridge*       1 position At Large

For further information go to:  https://elections.delaware.gov/information/elections/school.shtml

Even if you don’t have children in the school system, please give some consideration to running for one of these positions. If you decide you are interested, contact the Sussex GOP at SussexGOP@protonmail.com.  We need to protect our children and have a voice!
